Daisy was a very energetic staffie x who came from a re-homing centre in the Midlands. Relationship for Daisy with dogs and people, especially children, had always been extremely difficult. She’d had a tough life until then and it showed. A quiet life with Mum is what she needed then. They were good company for on another.
For several years Daisy lived with my Mum until Mum reached a point in her life when she could no longer look after Daisy properly so we took Daisy into our home. This was done with care and we planned for Daisy to live with us many months before she came in 2018. There were opportunities for various walks and sleep overs to acclimatise her to Pogo, Kuzu, the cats and life in our household and vice versa. This was also time for my Mum to slowly adjust to the changes that were happening.
Mum and Daisy are still able to see one another and enjoy short times together.
All the dogs are now happy together although there had been the odd occasion when excitement quickly tipped them over the edge but where possible we plan ahead and pre-empt these situations so they can be avoided, therefore the dogs can feel safe. There’s always going to be the odd occasion when something unexpected happens.
Because the dogs had, and still occasionally require boundaries and barriers at these exciting times they’ve all been able to form positive relationships when they can think clearly and that’s when respect for one another is shown. They’re such a beautiful family of dogs. I love them all dearly. Daisy and Kuzu are especially good friends and I love to see how daintily Daisy and Pogo have ‘those moments’ when greeting one another, when no one is looking. They’re just being themselves.
