Meet the adorable Kuzu.
As I was looking for a BIG dog to join our family, a friend, Jean Gough, suggested I go to see this dog who had been taken from being put to sleep and into ‘Carla Lane animals in need re-homing centre’ in Liverpool. Colin and I also took Pogo to meet him, and straight away she was keen, going straight up to him before we gave them a short walk at a distance to one another. This happened a couple of times before taking him home with us.
Many re-homing centres like the resident dog to be off lead with the one joining the family but I pointed out that it was far too early in their relationship and this could only happen when both were calm enough and with natural distractions walks have to offer. Pogo wasn’t calm, she had pent up energy as we’d travelled two hours to meet Kuzu and she certainly wasn’t in a relaxed state of mind to make rational decisions. Ideally being off lead together would take time and we wanted to get them off to a good start by taking both their needs into account. Taking time is always worth the effort.
Being off lead together comes much later, (when both are calm and thinking clearly), especially for a new dog that hasn’t had appropriate boundaries put in place and Kuzu was a young bouncy dog. He’d even been named him Tigger at the re-homing centre so I’m sure Pogo wouldn’t have appreciated a big bouncy off lead dog around her when she’d just got out of the car after a long journey!
Because of their gradual introduction they’re now good friends, living in harmony and that’s what matters most.
Kuzu is a very sensitive soul both inside and out and a pleasure to be with.
